I could almost imagine each little flower saying, “Stop .. and look at us! We're here to perform.. just for you!” And that's exactly what I did. I stopped and admired them!
(Gardens by the Bay - Singapore)
I fell in love with their unusual shapes and the way each flower seemed to have its own little personality. I wished I could have these little dancers growing right next to me, so I could watch their beautiful performance every day. I first saw them in Singapore and ever since, I've wished I could see them more often here in India. Perhaps I'll find them growing in the cooler regions of our country. Wouldn't it be lovely to have them right outside my window, where I could admire their little dance throughout the day?
Until I can have these beautiful flowers growing around me, I decided to bring them to life in my own little way through cardmaking.
For this card, I used the Fuchsia Layering Dies by Altenew to create the flowers and foliage. I wanted to capture their distinctive, dangling shapes and the movement that had caught my attention when I first saw them.
I played with shades of pink, coral and purple for the flowers, pairing them with vibrant green foliage. I chose a rich blue and purple background to create contrast and help the flowers stand out with Altenew's Weathered Bark 3D Embossing Folder.
Of course, my colours are my own interpretation of these blooms. One of the things I love about paper crafting is that I can take inspiration from nature and let my imagination do the rest. A few sequins add a touch of sparkle, and I finished the card with a simple Sending Warm Hugs sentiment.
I wanted the flowers to remain the stars of the show, just as they had been when I first encountered them in real life! For me, fuchsia flowers became little dancers. And when I sat down to make this card, I wasn't simply thinking about flowers. I was thinking about those tiny performers, their flowing skirts and the graceful way they seemed to hang as though they were waiting for their music to begin.
That's one of the things I love most about cardmaking:..it gives me a way to hold on to these little moments of wonder and turn them into something I can share with others.
Until I find a way to grow these little dancers close to home, I'll be happy to have them on my craft desk!
The class is designed to help you explore watercolor specifically through a cardmaking lens, so you can learn techniques that you can actually use with the stamps, dies, and supplies already sitting in your craft room.
I hope you’ll give this relaxed, no-pressure approach to watercoloring a try. Sometimes the best results happen when we stop worrying about getting it “right” and simply let the colors play!
